I sometimes forget this.

I should probably hang it on the wall.

When I'm stuck, or I'm feeling that I should be working, but I'm procrastinating ... The best thing I can do for myself is to find a way to make some progress.

Once I start to make progress, I feel better, energized.

It doesn't have to be the most important part of the project. Just ... anything. Make some visible progress. Pick up the tools and start.

I'm going to start practicing the following, until it becomes habit:

1) For every project, keep a rough plan or list of things that need to be done. No matter what method you choose, make it trivial to add more tasks and more detail to the plan.

2) Find a way to make progress visible. Define "Done" for each part. Create some signal that the task is complete. For me, this is going to be graphical, and I may color things in as they get done. That sort of feedback helps me.

3) Name the unknowns. You don't have to solve them right now, but you'll feel much better if you avoid getting to the point where you have so many that you start to feel overwhelmed by unknowns. Identifying unknowns counts as progress.

None of this is profound; it's just easy to forget when you're stuck.
